Combating Viagra Spam Emails

Spam Can

If you're an Internet user and you use e-mail regularly, you can't say you aren't being bothered by Viagra-related spam messages on a constant basis. If your e-mail provider is a reputed service such as Google, Yahoo, Hotmail, or others, most spam messages probably get automatically filtered and don't make it to your inbox. However, no matter how ingenious the filters are set to be, some messages always seem to find their way around them and pop up in your face, urging you to buy Viagra and other erectile dysfunction pills.

The issue has been quite serious lately, with such harsh developments as hackers compromising Pfizer computers to send the messages, while Pfizer were largely unaware of the problem at hand.

If you go through the "Spam" folder in your inbox, you'll probably notice the majority of e-mails are comprised of Viagra advertisements. This may also include other erectile dysfunction pills such as Levitra and Cialis, but the point is, this is the most commonly used subject for spam messages. So, how do we deal with this and prevent it from happening?

The short, but unpleasant answer is - you can't! Sadly, Viagra spam can never be stopped completely. On the other hand, you can take some simple steps to prevent it as much as possible, and see fewer of those messages.

Here are some tips on how to stop Viagra spam effectively:

  • Ensure that you're using a reliable e-mail service provider who frequently updates their filters, so that Viagra spam messages will be automatically redirected to their appropriate location - your spam folder. You shouldn't need to waste time on this by doing it yourself, and this depends entirely on the e-mail service you're using.
  • Most e-mail services have a button to report any spam messages, in case one has gotten through the filters and into your inbox. Always make use of that feature whenever a spam message has managed to get into your inbox! This way, you'll be helping the e-mail providers update their service and add the message to their filters, so it doesn't appear in the future.
  • Minimize the exposure of your e-mail address to the Internet. Only provide it where it's really needed, and never give it out freely. The places where spam bots collect their e-mails most frequently are forums, blogs, etc.
